Amazon tests parcel delivery to local retailers in UK

Delivery to newsagents, corner shops to help customers

Amazon is stepping up its efforts to ship products to customers by preparing a local depot delivery service in the UK. Currently being trialled under the name CollectPlus, the pilot program has signed up nearly 5,000 corner shops and newsagents to receive customer orders in cases where it is impractical for the delivery to be made to a customer's home.

Once the service fully rolls out across the UK, customers will be able to select the scheme at checkout and then collect the item at the participating store. Aside from corner shops typically being easier to access than post office and courier depots in terms of physical location, many retailers are open until very late at night, or in some instances around the clock, serving to help those not able to work within the schedules of normal delivery services.

The company's Locker program has continued to expand throughout the US with the recent addition of Silicon Valley joining the existing roster of Seattle, New York, and Washington DC. London is also included in the program. [via The Telegraph]
