Sources support new iPad mini design claims

Mockup an 'accurate representation' of what tablet should look like

New claims about the design of the iPad mini, including a mockup image, are believed to be an "accurate representation" of the tablet's design, according to iMore. The site says its information is based on several sources, who also indicate that the tablet should be as thin as the iPod touch, making it much thinner than the third-generation 9.7-inch iPad. It's expected that the reduced size and weight will make a mini iPad much easier to use with one hand and/or hold for long periods.

One issue still in contention is how much the device might cost. While some rumors have pointed to between $249 and $299, others have pegged it between $199 and $249. Pricing is an especially significant topic, since a mini iPad would be competing against tablets like the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire, which each sell for as little as $199. Apple has been unable to compete directly, since even an iPad 2 is $200 more expensive.

iMore has produced its own mockup, giving a sense for the relative size and thinness of the iPad, iPad mini, and iPod touch versus the Nexus 7 and the Kindle Fire.
