Scout app for iPhone gets updated with offline GPS mode

Telenav's Scout navigation app we had a chance to check out at CES has just received an update for its iOS version that will work offline. Users will get the option of downloading regions separated into Western, Central or Eastern and use their device's GPS sensor to get spoken, turn-by-turn directions. Also new is voice control, with users able to say things like "Drive home" or "Find gas station" and have their phones guide them there.

Using the new app won't incur any data charges, which can not only save users money, but also not leave them stranded when they are in a remote geographical area where they don't have a data signal. Downloading the maps requires a Wi-Fi connection due to their size.

AT&T's Scout-powered Navigator app had the same functionality since 2011. Now, iPhones on all carriers can get the same benefits.

The offline navigation does cost $9.99 per year or $2.99 per month after a 30-day free trial. Other, premium features are included for this price as well.
