Developers program aims to build ThinkPad application store

Computer and electronics manufacturer Lenovo today announced two ultrabooks kicking off the brand's 20th anniversary -- the premier ThinkPad X1 Carbon, and the new business-focused T430u. The Lenovo Developer Program was also unveiled, giving programmers access to tools, technologies, and support to create a specialized catalog of applications that take full advantage of the company's suite of Windows 8 products.

The carbon-fiber ThinkPad X1 Carbon weighs just less than three pounds, and is equipped with a 14-inch 1600x900 display. Battery life of up to 6.3 hours is expected. USB 3.0, and Mini DisplayPort are standard on the computer. The Thinkpad X1 Carbon features an Ivy Bridge Intel Core i5-3317U processor and 128GB SSD retails for $1,399. Models equipped with 3G wireless start at $1,499. At the high end, the Xi Carbon with an Ivy Bridge Intel Core i7-3667U with 256GB SSD and 3G is available for $1,849.

The ThinkPad T430u has a 14-inch 1366x768 display. Up to 8GB of RAM can be installed in the machine, with a variety of hard drive options or a 128GB SSD available for storage. An optional NVIDIA GeForce GT620M GPU is available. The ThinkPad T430u is available starting at $780.

Lenovo's first worldwide software developer's program is intended to create an application store, utilizing all the capabilities of Lenovo technologies, including laptops, tablets, smart phones, and televisions. Developers will be able to pre-register for the program by the end of this week.
