Also adds new Effefects Browser, smart Alignment Guides
The developers of Pixelmator have released a major update to the image editing app, v2.1. The software has been newly optimized for the MacBook Pro's Retina display, both in terms of interface and engine. The update is also Mountain-Lion compatible, and enables quick sharing to iPhoto, Aperture, Facebook, Flickr, and AirDrop. iCloud hooks allow documents saved on one Mac to be opened on others.
In tool terms Pixelmator has a new Effects Browser, which lets people preview and pick from over 160 different options, including color adjustments. Effects can be combined, and favorite ones tagged for faster access. Several new effects are included in the bunch: Vintage, Miniaturize, Black and White, Rain, and Snow.
The software has lastly gained "smart" Alignment Guides, which help to position objects more evenly in images. The app is currently on sale for $15 at the Mac App Store; users must be running OS X 10.6.8 or later.
