HTC Rezound Android 4.0 update arrives

updated 05:04 pm EDT, Thu August 2, 2012

Verizon said to be pushing update soon

A notice on the Verizon home page revealed today that an upgrade to Android 4.0 is imminent for the HTC Rezound. The update will bring a number of improvements for owners of the HTC handset, and the new software will be pushed over-the-air. Verizon has yet to reveal exactly when the update will be pushed out, though, as the notice page still lists it as "coming soon."

The upgrade to Android 4.0.3 will bring changes to the notification bar and improvements to battery monitoring. It also brings fuller multitasking capabilities, the ability to create folders, improved voice input, and incognito mode for browsing. Users will also be able to use the Rezound's front-facing camera to unlock their phones with facial recognition.

In addition to the standard Android 4.0 features, Verizon will be adding updates to its V CAST Media manager, making it compatible with Backup Assistant Plus. The clock widget has also been fixed to resolve time zone issues, and the default mail application will properly display Yahoo mail. Verizon has also included Cisco AnyConnect support to improve VPN functionality and made improvements to mobile hotspot connectivity.

The Rezound's Android update has been expected for some time now. In June, HTC's software upgrade page listed the Rezound as read for version 4.0, though it is thought that the delay was due to Verizon needing to optimize the system to work on its own networks. The update is 299MB in size. Download should take 30-45 minutes, depending on network speed, with installation taking an additional 20-25 minutes. [via PhoneScoop]
