Electrify 2 replaces Photon 4G-based predecessor

Motorola's Electrify 2 and Defy XT are both set for a US Cellular launch. The two Android-powered smartphones--the Electrify 2 on Ice Cream Sandwich (v4.0) and the Defy XT on Gingerbread (v2.3)--head to the network this week.

The Electrify 2, serving as a replacement for its predecessor, houses a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, a microSD slot, an eight-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, a front-facing shooter, and a claimed continuous talk time of 10 hours on WCDMA or 22 hours on GSM. The 4.3-inch, 960x540 resolution display is protected by a Kevlar fiber case, allowing the handset to be a third of an inch (8.4mm) thick.

In contrast, the Defy XT has a smaller 3.7-inch 854x480 display, a 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, and a five-megapixel rear camera. Although it lacks the power and features of the Electrify 2, it claims to be more rugged, with its Gorilla Glass front and strong case making it water-resistant, dust-proof and scratch resistant.

The Electrify 2 is out today, while the Defy XT will join the network tomorrow.
