iCloud users complain about vanishing email libraries

updated 02:07 pm EDT, Tue July 31, 2012

Accounts restored, old messages go missing

Some iCloud users are encountering serious problems with their email accounts, a thread on Apple's support forums indicates. Starting yesterday, some people have been seeing all of their old messages disappear from their iCloud accounts, including folder structures. Notes and aliases have also gone missing, and while affected people can now use iCloud email properly, the old data continues to be missing.

Some Apple tech support representatives have allegedly claimed that all of the old email content will eventually return. The problem appears to be connected to a recent outage, but Apple should, in theory, have backups of the of the data it can restore from.

If Apple can do anything right, is be simple.... They obviously can't make progress implementing advancements in their email department. It like having a wounded dog, make it a three-legged, voice box gone from cancer... what good is this? How about Apple just should get something right before announcing features, 'cause trust is something that takes time to build, yet is easily lost. Apple needs to get its priorities straight.... trust is going out the window so far, so at least they are being good at something

A small number of users may currently be unable to access older email messages. Sending and receiving new messages is unaffected. Access to older messages affected by this issue will be restored ASAP."

Atleast they acknowledge that there is a problem!

I'm one of the people who's folders are missing. I just thought it was something they were doing since there is VIP. Good to know that my folders will come back ... eventually.

Google lost a bunch of users mail a year or two ago, and couldn't restore it. We'll see if Apple can.

Bottom line is this can happen on any service - be responsible for your own data - back it up.

Indeed, Apple and sync don't go well together. iCloud. Messages. Mail. Notes. iCal. iTunes. Address Book… Apple rushes at all, defeats none.

What Apple is good at is FIRST IMPRESSIONS... Pretty and smooth is good, but charging a premium for it while dumbing down features is asinine. It's starting to look like this company is targeting girls/ladies, since hey, they are sold to the most in nearly every consumer industry. Good Job, way to be like every marketer. Think Different?
