Microsoft finalizes Perceptive Pixel acquisition

updated 05:58 pm EDT, Mon July 30, 2012

PPI will join Microsoft Office division

Microsoft has finalized its acquisition of large touchscreen maker Perceptive Pixel (PPI). The software giant announced the deal's completion in a post on The Official Microsoft Blog today. Financial aspects of the deal have yet to be announced.

Perceptive Pixel makes 82-inch multi-touch screens that are compatible with stylus and finger inputs. The displays are marketed toward enterprise customers and cost around $80,000.

PPI will be folded into the Microsoft Office Division, and PPI's founder Jeff Han will join Microsoft as a general manager. Microsoft's recent demonstration of the newest version of its Office productivity suite featured a segment in which the software was displayed on a PPI display, and the company reportedly intends to use PPI's technology to drive down the prices for large displays in order to make them more attractive to businesses.
