Google Play sells out of Nexus Q stock in 24 hours

updated 07:08 pm EDT, Wed July 25, 2012

Initial stocks run out forcing a 2-3 week wait

Google has sold out of its initial batch of the Nexus Q. The Google Play store shows the streaming media player as having a shipping timeframe of 2-3 weeks instead of the 3-5 day estimate from yesterday. Customers are now forced to wait for Google to get another batch of stock in for sale. It is unclear if the quick sale was from extreme customer demands or Google severely underestimating how many units were required, as it has not been revealed how big the initial stock allocation was.

The Nexus Q, revealed at Google I/O last month, is a spherical device that plugs into speaker systems and televisions, allowing users to stream media directly from the cloud. Users are able to control the Nexus Q from a tablet or smartphone running Android 2.3 or higher with access to Google Play.

Since its launch, the Nexus Q has been hacked to run Android games, CyanogenMod9 and Android XBMC, although with mixed success in each attempt to expand the device's limited functionality. An Easter Egg turns the Nexus Q into a Magic 8 Ball, giving responses similar to the novelty toy. [via Droid-Life]
