Gresso shows off $1,700 Cruiser Air Black with Symbian S40

updated 03:14 pm EDT, Wed July 25, 2012

Exclusivity of Symbian S40-powered phone is guaranteed thanks to 555-unit run

Gresso, which makes ultra-rare and exclusive devices, has now brought out its latest gadget, the Cruiser Air Black. The phone is the maker's first with a one-piece aluminum alloy construction and weighs just 106 grams. Its production will be limited to just 555 units.

The hardware buttons are made of matte steel and the phone is coated in glossy black panels. It's said to then be polished by a single craftsperson for several hours. It then undergoes an anodizing process. The front and rear panels use solid tempered glass plates.

The hardware specs are less impressive, however, with a two-inch, 240x320-pixel display and a two-megapixel camera. What processor is onboard isn't being revealed, however. There is 30MB of storage space onboard, supplemented by a microSD memory card slot, though only cards up to 2GB are supported. The phone supports 900, 1,800, and 1,900 GSM frequency bands and runs on the Symbian S40 operating system.

It also carries a whopping $1,700 price tag and will be available to purchase in August. Still, that's cheaper than the $30,000 price tag for a dressed-up iPhone Gresso also offers that sports actual diamonds. A version festooned with Swarovski crystals is priced at $7,000.
