T-Mobile support confirms Galaxy Note launch

updated 06:31 pm EDT, Mon July 16, 2012

Confirms previous rumors via official Twitter feed

T-Mobile has confirmed plans to carry the Samsung Galaxy Note on its network. The carrier made the indirect announcement on its support Twitter account earlier today, in a tweet that also promised more information on the handset's arrival in the future. This follows two separate occasions within the last few months in which images of the device, complete with T-Mobile branding, surfaced online ahead of an official confirmation.

The Galaxy Note currently ships with a dual-core 1.4Ghz processor, complete with an eight-megapixed rear-facing camera and a two-megapixel front-facing shooter, a 5.3-inch Super AMOLED HD display, and the Wacom-developed S-Pen. Original rumors suggested the device would reach customers with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) installed, but an update to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), which has already arrived for Notes offered through other carriers, may be pre-installed on the T-Mobile variant.

A photo of the Galaxy Note made its way to one blog's inbox in April, claiming to show a number of preinstalled apps on the device. In early June, a leaked T-Mobile inventory sheet seemed to show a navy blue version of the handset, with a press image appearing later the same month. Rumors have also circulated for the development of the Galaxy Note 2, which would have a larger 5.5-inch display and a design similar to the Galaxy S III. [via Engadget]
