Google confirms Nexus 7 shipments in poetic tweet

updated 06:31 pm EDT, Fri July 13, 2012

Orders stores to halt sales after early purchases

Google has confirmed it is now shipping the Nexus 7 tablet. Customers who pre-ordered through Google Play will be getting the seven-inch tablet delivered in the near future, after a poetic tweet from the search giant's Nexus Twitter account claimed the pre-orders were on the way. Some stores were a bit too eager to sell before its official release, handing over the tablets to paying customers earlier than Google intended.

Adorama in New York started selling the devices over the counter, according to The Verge. Both Adorama and UK-based online retailer Ebuyer were instructed to stop further sales until it is officially released. GameStop stores are handing pre-ordered handhelds to customers, but a spokesperson said the stores had enough stock for pre-orders only, and will expect a second wave of stock from August onwards.

The tweet from the @googlenexus account was framed as a four-line (quatrain) poem. The tweet read "Locked and loaded, ready to play: we've started shipping +Nexus 7 pre-orders today!" followed by a link to the Nexus 7 product page.
