Analysts claim 6.5M Samsung Galaxy S III sales in Q2

Speculation estimates Q3 sales of handset to reach 15M

Samsung has sold approximately 6.5 million Galaxy S III handsets over the second quarter, according to analysts. JPMorgan believes that the South Korean electronics giant will raise that number to around 15 million mobile devices between July and September, for total sales of around 20 million units within six months.

The analysts also believe Samsung has sold 50 million smartphones overall in the second quarter, higher than an estimated 30 million iPhone shipments. This would see Apple falling behind Samsung in terms of phone sales for the entire first six months of 2012. In the first quarter, the iPhone was estimated to account for 22.4 percent of sales compared to Samsung's 28.2-percent share.

Samsung itself expects around 10 million shipments of the Galaxy S III by the end of July, the bulk of which is speculated to come from the recent release to the US market. [via Slashgear]
