Contest to build Galaxy Tab, Note, S Pen apps
Samsung is calling out for entries to its Smart App Challenge. The contest is running until the end of September and will distribute $4.08 million in cash and prizes to 80 apps built with the Galaxy Tab and Note in mind. The ultimate aim of the contest is for Samsung to bolster its App Store, with all entries to the competition required to use it.
There are two main categories for judging. One is a straight download popularity contest, which is also split into Games and Non-Games sub-categories. The other is where a panel judges the best Galaxy Note app that uses the S Pen functionality, with bonus points apparently available for using Samsung services within the app, such as Samsung AdHub.
The top prize in each category is $200,000 followed by $100,000 for runners up. Extra marketing support from Samsung will be made available to winners, including being part of a joint marketing campaign for TV commercials and print advertisements.
