Nokia app tips Lumia 1001 existence

Same app that tipped the Lumia 910

The same service that tipped the existence of the Nokia Lumia 910 has now revealed that Nokia may also have a Lumia 1001 in the works. A writer at TechCrunch explored the workings of Nokia's Remote Device Access program and found the unrevealed device's name among testable units listed in the program. The higher numbering of the device's name would seem to indicate that it is an evolution of the Nokia line and could possibly run Windows Phone 8.

Little else is known about the 1001 beyond its name. Nokia's Remote Device Access program allows users to connect with Nokia hardware from within a browser window. The system is meant for developers to be able to test applications on actual hardware, but it has been used before to tip the existence of unreleased hardware. The Lumia 900 appeared on the service late last year before its debut.

Neither the Lumia 910 nor the Lumia 1001 are accessible for testing in the service. Instead, the names of the devices appear in a listing when a user commands a device to search for other Bluetooth-devices nearby.
