Squatter puts up little resistance
Apple already appears to have taken control of the ipad3.com domain, checks show. The address no longer has any content, and a Whois report indicates that the domain is now assigned to Kilpatrick Townsend & Stocktoon, a law firm Apple often relies on in patent and trademark disputes. Apple's complaint is still active at the World Intellectual Property Organization, but the former owner of ipad3.com, Global Access, appears to have surrendered the domain without a fight.
Eventually Apple may choose to redirect it to its main iPad page. Notably, the company doesn't actually have a product using the "iPad 3" name; it simply refers to the third-generation tablet as "the new iPad." iPad 3 has been a common nickname for the device though, and Apple likely wants to deter people from exploiting it and/or potentially confusing shoppers.
