Samsung releases first quad-core LTE variant of GS3

Samsung's first quad-core LTE variant of its popular Galaxy S III is headed to Korean carriers on July 9. The US version of the Galaxy S III with LTE uses the fast, but dual-core, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4. The new Korean model uses the same 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos processor on international variants of the Galaxy S III, but which has so far only been made available for 3G networks.

The new GS3 variant also carries 2GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage, but the same 2,100mAh battery as well as DMB TV tuning. With the addition of the LTE chipset in this application, it is likely that battery life will suffer somewhat as a result. One of the advantages of the dual-core Snapdragon variant for the US market is that it should offer better battery life by comparison. Its performance is also on par in many areas, although the quad-core Exynos does score better in some benchmarks, but takes a lead in GPU performance.

Three Korean carriers stand to benefit from the addition of the new handset including SK Telecom, KT and LG U+. It is not currently known if Samsung has any plans on releasing this version in other markets. [via Engadget]
