Apple pursues rights to iPad3.com domain name

Address currently occupied by known squatter

Apple has filed to seize control of the iPad3.com domain name, according to Domain Name Wire. The company has submitted a complaint to the World Intellectual Property Organization, hoping to take advantage of the organization's uniform domain name dispute resolution policy, also known as the UDRP. iPad3.com was first registered in January 2010; currently it's owned by Global Access, a business based on the Isle of Man which has already lost to numerous squatting accusations filed by companies like AOL and MasterCard.

Visiting iPad3.com shows only a series of text ads and generic search options designed to drive more traffic. Apple is likely to win the dispute without much effort, as it has in other cases. It still faces an uphill battle, though, as every iPad.com domain has been registered up to iPad25.

    huh?

Does that mean they can take over any domain with the name iPad in it?

Because, as we all know, there is no product called the iPad 3. It doesn't exist. Apple calls it 'the new iPad'.
