Three new Apple Stores to open this weekend

updated 05:06 pm EDT, Thu June 28, 2012

New York, Tennessee, Australia locations announced

Apple is opening three new retail stores this Saturday, June 30th. The first is the Ridge Hill location in Yonkers, New York. The outlet is just outside of New York City, and will be Apple's 17th in the state; a disproportionate number of those are clustered in and around the New York City area.

In Franklin, Tennessee, a shop is set to open within the CoolSprings Galleria. In contrast with Ridge Hill, CoolSprings will be just the fourth Apple Store in its state, about 15 miles south of Nashville's core. One store, Green Hills, is already located within Nashville proper.

The third new outlet is opening in Sydney, Australia. The Broadway shop will be just the 14th in the entire country; of those, half are situated around Sydney. Australia is however still doing better than most European nations, and even China, which has five stores divided between Beijing and Shanghai.

    Disproportionate? How so?

"... a disproportionate number of those are clustered in and around the New York City area."

According to Wikipedia, New York State has a population of some 19.5 million people, of which 8.2 million live in New York City. With 17 stores to serve 19.5 million people, you have a ratio of 1 per 1.14 million people. On that basis New York City should have 7.2 stores. Depending on your view of 'in and around', that seems right on target to me.
