New York Times to supply content to Flipboard

updated 04:12 pm EDT, Mon June 25, 2012

First NYT deal allowing content on third-party service

The New York Times has signed a deal allowing its content to appear in Flipboard, both parties have announced. Beginning on June 28th the Times will become available as a source option in the app, including images, videos, and full-sized articles. Readers will, however, still need a subscription to browse the newspaper's content.

The Times has previously never allowed all of its digital content to appear through third-party services, preferring to lock people into its own apps and web subscriptions. Flipboard however is one of the most popular mobile news readers, available for both iOS and Android. The app aggregates feeds from news sites and social networks into a magazine-style format, aimed mainly at tablets.
