LG Quick Voice virtual assistant takes on Siri, S Voice

updated 03:55 pm EDT, Wed June 20, 2012

LG to launch service in South Korea this month

LG is launching its own mobile-based virtual assistant in South Korea. Quick Voice, rolling out to various future Optimus handsets, is an attempt to take on the voice command functions offered by Apple's Siri and Samsung's S Voice. International variations of the app may follow the Korean launch.

Quick Voice will have support for 11 apps when it launches, including phone, address book, calendar, and email functions. Search is present for maps, weather, stocks and web results, all using the type of natural language processing found in S Voice and Siri. A designated Quick Notes key will allow for Quick Voice to start when the phone is in standby, and specifically in Korea, the technology will be customized to check for lunar calendar dates.

The Optimus Vu will receive Quick Voice by the end of this month, with the Optimus LTE II getting it in July. The code will be made available through a system update as opposed to Google Play, although no word has been said as to when the platform will be out in the US and Europe.
