Apple releases first developer beta of OS X 10.7.5

Graphics, networking among focus areas

Apple is seeding the first beta of OS X 10.7.5 to developers, according to AppleInsider. The initial build is listed as 11G15, and is a 937MB delta download, or 1.87GB in combo form. Developers are being asked to focus on graphics quality and performance, networking reliability and performance, and lastly importing, editing, and viewing images and other media.

Exact fixes are as yet unmentioned. 10.7.5 will likely be the last major update for Lion, since OS X Mountain Lion is scheduled to launch next month. As a rule, Apple largely abandons earlier operating systems as new ones come along, except to issue smaller patches to deal with specific support and security issues. Even then, only last-generation editions of OS X typically receive those updates.
