New iPad ad surfaces on day of MS tablet news

updated 10:30 pm EDT, Mon June 18, 2012

Touts creativity, consumption, Retina display

Perhaps by coincidence and perhaps not, Apple today began running a new ad for the iPad (seen below), the first for its market-dominating tablet in a while. The ad showcases the Retina display found on the latest iPad by demonstrating a variety of software running smoothly on the device, including emailing, book reading and media watching. The ad also makes time for showing off active uses, such as video editing in iMovie.

The recently-released iPhoto for iOS gets a quick cameo, as the user is seen briefly putting together a Photo Journal, at present a feature only found on the iOS version. The feature isn't meant as a replacement for the soon-to-be-defunct Mobile Me gallery, but does allow a public URL for sharing photos, notes, captions and date or weather conditions for a particular event.

Also seen in the "productivity" category are the use of a painting app, tweaking a Numbers spreadsheet with a pie chart, and utilizing an interactive widget in a iBooks Publisher textbook. The trailer for Disney/Pixar's upcoming film Brave is also seen in the ad.

    Not competing...

Can we clear this up once and for all. There are Apple users and non-Apple users, therefore anyone who seeks to buy non-Apple stuff now has an extra choice. This is GOOD for Apple and BAD for Android, Samsung and so forth. Microsoft is not competing with Apple, underneath it all it's still the M$ vs Android/Linux war that Ballmer can't let go of. Anything that helps to stem the tide of Android-Google proliferation is a good thing, even if it comes out of Redmond. The enemy of my enemy is my friend!

Right. It's all about Apple. You either want and get an Apple product, or you don't want anything from Apple and then go and look for a choice. When will you all realize there is a large segment of the population who just don't give a damn one way or the other about Apple? They don't hate them, and they don't love them. They might get an iphone or a droid or a windows phone. They may make the decision completely based on merits and points and other criteria that has nothing at all to do whether the name "Apple" is on the device.

Oh, you mean how Apple is divesting itself of all things Google, part of an Apple/Google war they can't let go of?

Anything that helps to stem the tide of Android-Google proliferation is a good thing, even if it comes out of Redmond.

Why is that a good thing? Do you for some reason fear Android? You already said that Android is only for apple-haters. So it doesn't matter whether there's any more competition or not. Apple will have their 70% market share forever, because that's set in stone. So who cares what the other 30% is doing?

"You already said that Android is only for apple-haters."

Really, where did I say that? Show me the quote. Please don't put words in my mouth (or anything else for that matter).

Of course, this is entirely aside from the fact that, as is frequently the case, you pretty much missed my point. But then, in your haste to say something negative and/or spiteful, as is also so often the case, the only thing with which you succeed is the successful substitution of one foot for the other in the necessarily tight-lipped o****** wherefrom issues so much bile. Take a pill. Seriously.
