Early Retina MacBook Pro orders arrive [First Look Images]

updated 03:11 pm EDT, Fri June 15, 2012

Includes built-to-order systems

Some online orders of the Retina MacBook Pro are already beginning to arrive, MacNN readers say. This includes built-to-order machines, which normally require extra preparation time. Shipments are in fact arriving early in some circumstances; a number of orders are only officially scheduled for delivery early next week.

Apple launched the computer just this Monday following an announcement at WWDC 2012. The system is Apple's only Mac with Retina technology, but also borrows cues from the MacBook Air, for instance by omitting an optical drive, using an SSD instead of a hard disk, and shrinking in thickness. New US orders are only expected to ship in three to four weeks.

    Nice

Just came back from the local Apple Store. That thing is so much thinner than the non-Retina Display version because of its lack of a built-in Superdrive.

    got to see one

on my flight from ATL - FRA two days ago. (Fellow passenger at the SkyClub had one) Beautiful machine. The screen is stunning. Wish I could afford one at the moment. It's a hot machine.

"So much thinner"? It's .2 inches thinner. Not exactly a 'large' amount of real thinness (percentage, sure, but is someone going to argue going from .9 to .7 is the make-or-break point of a buying decision?
