Retina MacBook Pro shipping wait now three to four weeks

updated 08:57 pm EDT, Thu June 14, 2012

Wait time up from just two days ago for new Retina Macs

Shipping times for the Retina display-equipped MacBook Pro have increased yet again. The online Apple Store page for the Retina MacBook Pro now shows that shipping delay for both the 2.3 and 2.6GHz models has jumped from the two-to-three week delay seen just two days ago to three-to-four weeks. Non-Retina MacBook Pros show no shipping delay.

The supply shortage illustrates the considerable demand for the high-resolution devices, which continues to grow despite the computers' $2,199 and $2,799 base pricetags. News that the Retina MacBook Pro was deemed the least repairable laptop ever by iFixit -- primarily for its soldered-in RAM and glued-in battery -- also seems to have had no effect on demand.

By way of comparison, shipping delays for the third-generation iPad didn't hit the two-to-three weeks mark until several days after it launched. Customers who got their online orders in early, though, should be receiving their new Retina MacBooks some time early next week.

Lines are forming just to see...

    The new MacBook Pro 2880 x 1800.

By the way, the disc-drive-less units (both MBA and MBP) brought us MagSafe2. The 6/11 models require MagSafe 2 adapters. If you have an old MBP (pre-6/11), you'd better buy the new MagSafe 2 adapter and pony up the $9.99 MagSafe2 conversion adapter going forward. The old MagSafe is now obsolete.
