Screenshots reveal Drive 3.0, Camera UI

Tech blog Nokia Innovation has reportedly received leaked screenshots of Microsoft's forthcoming Windows Phone 8 operating system. The screenshots, which come by way of an anonymous source, appear to show off the WP8 user interface for the camera app, Skype, and also Nokia Drive 3.0, which would indicate that they were taken from one of Nokia's four rumored Windows Phone handsets.

The screenshots show off the long-rumored native Skype integration for WP8. Users will be able to choose between audio and video Skype calls, and to initiate Skype chat from a user profile.

The screens also show a very simple UI for the camera app, which consists of a zoom slider on one side and three menu options on the other. It may be possible that the UI shown in the screens is particular to Nokia phones. In the past, the company has previously hinted and ultimately confirmed that its PureView technology would be coming to WP8, and as such Nokia may have been given some leeway with regard to camera UI features.

The leaked shots also show off Nokia's turn-by-turn navigation app, Nokia Drive. In WP8, it appears that this app will feature updated traffic reporting and automatic re-routing. Also included in the leak is a WP8-native feature allowing users to monitor their data usage. The screens show off live tile access to a screen featuring bar graphs and pie charts of data used and remaining, as well as a link that appears to allow users to explore other data plans.

While there has been some confusion with regard to device compatibility, Microsoft's latest mobile OS is expected to officially debut some time this summer, with a release date likely later in the year. In addition to its Apollo UI, the OS will bring dual-core processor support, greater display resolution support, and a number of other features likely to be detailed at Microsoft's Developer Summit, scheduled for June 20 and 21.
