Games, utilities, apps of all sorts now on sale
Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference has been seen as cause for celebration, with at least 45 Mac and iOS apps currently on special price reductions in their respective app stores. Long-time poster Bandersnatch at Canadian tech bargains forum RedFlagDeals has been rounding up the specials, most of which are expected to be valid through the conference but may be extended through the weekend.
A number of well-known apps have joined the fray, including brainstorming and task-management app OmniFocus for Mac, which is half off it's usual $80 price (the iPad version is also half off). Also of note are reductions in the price of bitmap editor Pixelmator (50 percent off, now $15), Autodesk's drawing program Sketchbook Pro (60 percent off, now $24), the Google Reader client Reeder (half off, now $5) and the iPad app Monopoly Here & Now World Edition HD (70 percent off, now $3).
Advanced "calcultions" app Soulver is now $12 (usually $20), the iCal-compatible menubar calendar utility Fantastical is available for $10 (normally $20) and both the Mac version of 1Password and the iOS 1Password Pro are on sale (the former now $40, $10 off, the latter now $12 from $15). Note-taking, writing and to-do apps are also on sale, including Byword ($5, normally $10); Omniwriter Dana II ($2, normally $5); MindNode Pro ($10, normally $20); CourseNotes ($4, normally $8); iPhone diary app Momento ($1, regularly $3); iPad app GoodNotes ($1, down from $4), and to-do app Toodledo ($1, normally $3).
Educational apps are also participating, including Algodoo (normally $60) is now priced at $15, astronomical program Star Walk for iPad ($3, down from $5), OmniGraphSketcher (which is normally $30) is half-price, statistical search engine Wolfram Alpha for iOS is $2 instead of $4 and National Geograhic's World Atlas HD for iPad is $1 (down from $2).
A large number of games for Mac and iOS are also on sale, though discounts are not as steep. Notable titles include Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic ($2 off, now $18); Sid Meier's Civilization (both IV and V) for Mac; war game Company of Heroes Complete ($5 off it's normal $50 pricetag); $2 off the $10 Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition, and perennial favorite Call of Duty (both 2 and 4),10 percent off their normal prices among others.
Audio app makers Ableton are also putting their products on sale, albeit through their web site rather than any of the app stores. Until June 15, all three of their main products (Ableton Suite, Ableton Live and Live Intro) are selling for one-third off the normal retail price. [via RedFlagDeals]
