Asus rep reportedly confirms Google Nexus tablet in June

updated 12:55 pm EDT, Mon June 11, 2012

Seven-inch tablet to be based on Nvidia's Kai

Rumors of an Asus-produced Google Nexus tablet were confirmed today, Android Authority is claiming, as a company representative is said to have verified that a seven-inch model would be arriving at the end of June. The Nexus tablet was previously outed in benchmarking tests and is expected to be powered by Nvidia's Kai platform.

The Asus rep didn't provide exact details on a launch date for the tablet, but Google may reveal the device at the Google I/O conference. Should the device prove to be powered by the Kai chipset, that could mean it will debut in the sub-$200 range.

The seven-inch Nexus is expected to come with a 768x1280 display. The benchmarking tests that previously referenced the device showed a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 Cortex-A9 processor running at 1.3GHz, but no information was available with regard to storage or connectivity.

Earlier this month, images purportedly showing the device emerged online, revealing a white-faced front panel and a two-tone back, along with an ear speaker slit that points to phone capabilities. Assuming the tablet materializes as expected, its size and price point would likely put it in competition with Amazon's Kindle Fire more so than Apple's iPad.

ASUS is still considered a poor mans brand

When your customers are cheapskates you will struggle to keep them loyal.
