Over 225k apps specifically for iPad

Apple kicked off its WWDC keynote by highlighting its latest App Store metrics, boasting that overall downloads have surpassed 30 billion. The company also noted that developers have fetched more than $5 billion in payments from the iOS app portal, which breaks down to a $1 in revenue for every six downloads.

The revenues have been passed through a total of 400 million App Store accounts. CEO Tim Cook claims the App Store represents the largest number of accounts with credit cards on the Internet.

The executive suggests the portal represents "the most vibrant app ecosystem on the planet," achieving "phenomenal" size and momentum. Cook also took a dig at Android, claiming the competition only has a "few hundred" tablet-oriented apps while the App Store has more than 225,000 designed specifically for the iPad.

"For Apple, and I suspect many of you, our goal has always been to do great work and to make a difference in other people's lives," Cook told attendees at the developer conference. "Nothing makes use happier than to see hundreds of thousands of devs around the world using our hardware and our software to share their latest and greatest ideas."
