Apple job posting suggests Aperture for iOS in development

updated 04:24 pm EDT, Mon June 11, 2012

Listing seeks coders with OS X, iOS experience

Recently-uncovered job listings seems to indicate that Apple is looking to bring a version of its pro-photography program Aperture to iOS. The listings show that Apple's Aperture team is looking to bring on user-interface engineers, managers, and software coders with experience working in the iOS environment. Experience in programming for iOS is listed as a key requirement in the listing, which seems to suggest that the listing is aimed at bringing in talent to eventually produce an iOS app, AppleInsider reports.

The listings are said to have been received as part of an e-mail from an Apple corporate recruiter, and they were also posted on the Jobs at Apple website last week. One listing calls for an experienced individual who can "help shape a new generation of tools for advanced photo management and manipulation," which seems to indicate that the hire would be working on an app more sophisticated than Apple's current photography offerings for iOS.

An Aperture variant for iOS would mark the first appearance of Apple's professional-grade applications on the company's mobile platform. As the job listings were just posted recently, it's unlikely that Aperture will be a part of any new iOS offerings in the near future.

A mobile version of Aperture is viewed by many as a sensible product, though, when taken in combination with reports that late Apple CEO Steve Jobs had envisioned transforming photography in addition to textbooks and television. The company is believed by some to be working on a new camera, which could be among the projects Apple design guru Jonathan Ive recently described as "the most important and the best work" that his team at Apple had ever done.
