iPad to join Back to School promo
Apple will announce two new native iOS apps later today, claims Fox News anchor Clayton Morris. The information is said to be based on "multiple sources," but no other information is mentioned. He does clarify that he's not referring to updates to existing apps, although he hints that the iOS 6 version of Maps could get long-awaited turn-by-turn navigation support.
MacRumors meanwhile says it has learned that tomorrow, Apple will be launching the US version of its annual Back to School promotion. As is usual the company should be giving away $100 gift cards to people buying new Macs. New this year, though, is a plan to give out $50 iTunes cards to people buying new iPads.
Apple has tried to make the education market one of its primary focuses for the iPad. iBooks 2 was specifically built to support digital textbooks on the tablet, and a matching iTunes U app allows for complete online courses. Some schools around the US have made deals to buy iPads in bulk for their students.

Wow!
Two new apps! That makes, what, 500,002 now or something! This is going to be killer!
And just what the iOS community wants, two more apps they can't delete from their iPhone (hey, maybe these will be like newsstand and you can't even put them in a folder!).
