Also uses data from anonymous 'others'
The iOS 6 Maps app, revealed today, actually uses TomTom data as its primary source of mapping data, screenshots show. A check of the Acknowledgements section lists TomTom under copyrights. The app's corner menu, meanwhile, mentions "Data from TomTom, others."
Who the other parties might be might be is unclear, though Apple is known to have partnered with Yelp on providing some data for local business searches. The iOS 6 version of Maps is Apple's first to have abandoned any ties with Google, forcing the company to turn to alternatives for both mapping data and technology. The app's 3D feature, for instance, is believed to stem from an earlier buyout of C3 Technologies.

Amazing and useful...
I watched Apple's new map demonstration on WWDC 2012 video. It's better than I thought and it puts Google map into shame. Apple's new Map app will also jeopardize Garmin and other turn-by-turn map apps big time.
