updated 01:25 pm EDT, Mon June 11, 2012

Actor and Director from iconic series to speak about storytelling

Two Star Trek icons and an animator will be talking during the Lunchtime Sessions at WWDC this week. LeVar Burton, J.J. Abrams, and William Joyce will be speaking at the conference, with subjects centering on how technology is impacting storytelling and views on changing the content creation process, along with demonstrations on how these are happening.

LeVar Burton, known for being Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation, will speak first on Wednesday, detailing how science fiction and technology shaped his life. Following on from his work on educational show Reading Rainbow, he will demonstrate how he aims to teach children with an app counterpart to the TV program.

William Joyce, a creative director at Moonbot Studios, will explain how his company is "changing the content world as fast as it can." Joyce has worked with Pixar Animation among others, and has worked on projects such as Robots, Meet the Robinsons, and Emmy-award-winning TV series Rolie Polie Olie.

J.J. Abrams will speak on the Friday session about how he mixes analog tools with more modern methods in moviemaking, and about the challenges brought by prosumer gadgetry. He will also speak about improvisation and experimentation for creative visual techniques and narratives.
