Google Trusted Stores rolls out after successful trials

updated 11:36 am EDT, Fri June 8, 2012

Google program gives stores report card and purchase protection

The official Google blog has outed its Trusted Stores program for merchants. Previously mentioned during the Product Search service changes last week, the program will give merchants' customers up to $1,000 of lifetime purchase protection, and a way to check the quality of a merchant with an online report card.

A Trusted Store badge from Google shows the report card, which provides a grade for shipping reliability and customer service efficiency. The report card, along with $1,000 purchase protection, is an effort to try and make customers more confident with online shopping, with a dedicated team also on hand to solve customer-merchant disputes.

The service has been trialled by Google since the fall, and was used by 50 online merchants over 10 million transactions. Subjects of the test found an increase in sales, with Wayfair gaining 2.3 percent more sales and Beau-coup increasing by 8.6 percent. The Trusted Store badge will also be making its way to ads run by Google, as well as Google Shopping results. [via Official Google Blog]
