ZTE Tania launches in China with faster processor

First Chinese-made Windows Phone

Chinese manufacturer ZTE launched its Tania handset in China today. The Tania is the first Windows Phone developed by a Chinese company. As Chinese tech blog WP Dang reports, the Tania will be exclusive to China Unicom, and the Chinese model of the phone ships with a faster processor than will its international counterparts.

The Tania comes with a 4.3-inch 800x480 display, a 1,400 mAh battery, and a 5MP camera. The handset has only 4GB of internal storage, 512MB of RAM, and runs Windows Phone 7.5. International versions of the phone will ship with the same spec sheet, with the exception of the processor: the Chinese version is clocked at 1.4GHz, while international versions top out at 1GHz.

Electronista went hands on with the Tania earlier this year, finding it to be about as responsive as other then-current Windows Phone devices. The screen on the handset was lacking in brightness and color presentation, but the phone seemed otherwise capable, though not exactly compelling. The Tania was launched in the UK earlier this year on Virgin Mobile.
