Asus Taichi screens allow notebook-as-tablet use, desktop sharing

Asus has outed a prototype dual-screen Windows 8 notebook at Computex. The Taichi series contains a screen on both sides of the lid, using the internal-facing display for normal notebook uses and an external display for use as a tablet. Both screens can be used simultaneously, allowing for face-to-face notebook sharing with one user having keyboard access, the other using the touchscreen.

Both the 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch variants will run a resolution of 1920x1080 on the Super IPS+, FHD displays. Internal- and external-facing cameras sit above the screens, with each display capable of showing different content and usable independently. Intel Ivy bridge Core i7 processors power the Windows 8 notebooks, supported by 4GB of RAM and SSD storage options. Extra connectivity is provided by dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi, mini VGA, micro DVI, and USB3 ports.

There are no details as to pricing plans or availability of the Taichi notebooks, and since the devices are prototypes, it is possible that it may not even be released at all, but that is unlikely. [via Engadget]
