Mobile Me ending

Users of Apple's soon-to-be-defunct Mobile Me cloud service have reportedly begun receiving notifications from Apple that the service is on its last legs. A tweet reblogged by 9to5mac shows what appears to be a screenshot of a notification from Apple, warning a user that his Mobile Me service will be expiring at the end of June. The Notification directs the user to visit me.com/move in order to migrate data to an iCloud account.

Apple has been urging Mobile Me users to make the switch to iCloud, even giving free storage as an incentive.

White House to fight botnets

The Obama administration is looking to enlist Internet service providers and financial services companies in a pilot program aimed at fighting botnets and computer viruses, according to Bloomberg. The program would ask participants to share data about networks of infected computers. The White House also brought out a set of voluntary principles developed by an industry group to battle botnets and increase consumer education.

Woz, Crucial raincheck with Apple gift card

Computer memory maker Crucial today backed out of a contest prize offering, but contestants may or may not be happy with what they can win instead. Initially, CNet reports, Crucial had offered contestants the chance to win dinner with Steve Wozniak as the grand prize of a Mac-centric contest it launched earlier this month. Woz has apparently backed out, though, or scheduling difficulties have interfered, and the prize is now a $10,000 Apple gift card, with a matching $10,000 given to tech-centric non-profit TechSoup Global.

    Honestly?

I'd rather have the gift card anyway. And that's pretty much the case for dinner with anyone, not just Wozniak. He may be the world's most wonderful dinner companion for all I know, but for $10k I could get gear I would be using for years, rather than a couple of hours of conversation.
