Gigabyte delivers all-carbon fiber X11 notebook

Gigabyte has revealed its new X11, a new 11-inch notebook that it is calling the world's first all-carbon fiber notebook as well as the world's lightest. The X11 weighs in at 975 grams, sliding it in under the 11-inch Apple MacBook Air. It is also just 3mm thin at its thinnest point and 16.5mm at its thickest.

Gigabyte says that the advantage of using carbon fiber extensively in the design of the X11 means that it is up to 600 percent stronger than aluminum, while offering better elasticity helping to resist compression and other impacts. Gigabyte's engineers have also incorporated a glass fiber multi-touch touchpad, which it says is more responsive to inputs. On its rear, are a pair of dual air vents in one of the more original notebook design touches we've seen in some time.

The X11 is powered by the latest Intel Ivy Bridge-based 3rd generation Core processors, while the 128GB solid state drive is a SATA III type coupled with Intel's rapid start tech. Connectivity includes USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, as well as the latest Bluetooth 4.0 specification. The display is a standard 1366x768 resolution, although it manages to incorporate stereo speakers into the thin chassis.

The Gigabyte X11 will hit the market in July for $999 and $1299 with ULV Core i5 and Core i7 configurations.
