Required install for Office 2008, 2011 versions
Microsoft has updated its AutoUpdate tool for the two most recent versions of Microsoft Office for Mac. The new version, 2.3.4, completely replaces the old auto-updater and will be used to receive future product updates for Office 2008 and Office 2011. The company says the new version "is part of Microsoft's continued effort to provide the latest product updates to customers." The update is mandatory for Office 2008 users to receive updates going forward.
The new AutoUpdate is still a universal program, meaning it can work with both PPC-based as well as Intel-based Macs. It requires OS X 10.4.9 or later and Office 2008 or 2011 to already be installed. The download is 0.85MB in size.
Last month, the company was forced to pull an automatic update to Office 2011 SP2 over a database corruption issue. The company issued a fix about a week later. Earlier this month, an additional security update was pushed out to address six critical vulnerabilities in both the 2008 and 2011 versions of Office.

awful
It still takes twice as many clicks as anything else to install and now it's joined the ranks of all those c*** programs that ask you to close all your web browsers while it installs. So rude. So stupid.
