Amazon Instant Video streaming arrives on Xbox Live

Xbox Live gold and Amazon Prime subscriptions required

Earlier today, Amazon and Microsoft made the Amazon Instant Video streaming media application available to Xbox Live gold-level subscribers. Over 17,000 streaming videos are now available to watch on Microsoft's console for free. Both an Xbox Live gold subscription and an Amazon Prime membership are required for streaming.

The move makes Amazon's 120,000-strong library of purchasable videos available for viewing on the Xbox. Watch lists are manageable from either a web interface, or locally on the Xbox. The Xbox Kinect technology is usable for searching and playing videos, in addition to the conventional game controller interface. Purchases from Amazon are instantly loaded on a watch list for easy selection on the console.

Amazon instant video streaming joins Epix, CinemaNow, Crackle, Dailymotion, ESPN, Verizon FIOS, Netflix, Hulu Plus, HBO, MLB, and others on the Xbox 360. Many cable channels require a paid cable subscription, such as HBO or Verizon FIOS, to watch content through their respective applications.
