Cube replaces digital to audio converter on music player with its own
NuForce has released its Cube mobile speaker. The compact cube offers to play sound as a conventional speaker, serve as a headphone amplifier to boost volume, or work as a USB digital-to-analog converter (DAC), bypassing a computer or music player's own on-board DAC in favor of components that are claimed to be of higher quality.
The Cube measures 2.3 inches in each direction and holds a rechargeable lithium battery that is said to be capable of powering the three-watt speaker for eight hours. Certain features offered by other portable speakers, such as Bluetooth connectivity or charging support, are sacrificed in favor of audio clarity and battery life for the speakers themselves; the stereo cable and USB pass only audio. An optional iPod Nano connecter effectively docks the small music player to the side of the speaker.
The NuForce Cube is now available for $120 through the NuForce website and other retailers.
