Samsung explains issues with Galaxy S III 'Pebble Blue'

Blue GS3 in short supply due to paint problem

Reports suggesting that Samsung has been experiencing manufacturing issues with the Pebble Blue version of the Galaxy S III have proven accurate. The company has issued a statement on the matter explaining that its special paint and color treatment for the design isn't turning out the way they wanted. As a result, it will be in limited supply for the next few weeks.

'Samsung's Galaxy S III Pebble Blue version comes with a newly invented blue color and special hyperglaze material,' reads a statement from the company. 'In order to meet the highest internal quality standards and to provide the best quality Galaxy S III to customers, a short supply of Pebble Blue version is expected in some regions in the next 2-3 weeks. Samsung is working hard to ensure that customers will get the Pebble Blue colored devices as soon as possible,' the statement concludes.

Ironically for a company accused of closely imitating Apple, the white version of Apple's iPhone 4 was delayed for several months as a result of Apple adopting a new paint and application process for glass surfaces. In this instance though, Samsung is having problems applying its 'brushed aluminum look' to a plastic surface. An example of the what a Pebble Blue Samsung Galaxy S III gone wrong looks like is embedded below courtesy of Mobile Bulgaria. As can be seen, the paint beneath the top layer has suffered cracking issues.
