Diablo III to get first client-side patch next week

updated 05:50 am EDT, Fri May 25, 2012

Activision-Blizzard also addresses security concerns

Diablo III will get its first patch next week, according to Activision-Blizzard community manager 'Nethaera'. The incoming client-side patch will fix a number of bugs, including one that breaks the game, as well as a number of alterations to class skills to balance gameplay. Security concerns and the real-money auction house were also discussed in the forum post.

The game has received a number of hotfixes to address service stability following the vast numbers of players attempting to play. Connectivity issues affected all players, due to the game requiring players to be online even for single-player campaigns. Reports of players finding their accounts hacked were also answered, advising the number of Diablo III players affected is small and were all accounts without the authenticator attached. The option to buy items from the in-game auction house with real money has been pushed back, citing a need to iron out more pressing game issues before bringing the feature live. The gold-based auction house is already active.

Diablo III set the all-time record for the fastest-selling PC game during the first 24 hours of release, with 3.5 million copies sold and more than 6.3 million players in the first day of release.
