Global sales head Spence leaves RIM

Patrick Spence, 14-year veteran of Research in Motion (RIM) and its head of global sales, has departed the company. Spence "will be taking on a leadership position in a different industry," according to RIM spokeswoman Rebecca Freiburger. No comment has been made if the move is in response to the announcement of RIM's new Chief Operating Officer and Chief Marketing Officer three weeks ago.

HP Compaq branding retires in 2013

HP will shift its Compaq branding strategy in 2013. The "HP Compaq" moniker will be retired, and the Compaq name by itself will mark a dedicated line of basic home PCs at "entry level pricing." The move will force HP to take a $1.2 billion "goodwill impairment" non-cash charge in the next quarter. The charge is a necessary accounting move related to the change in branding.

Diablo III fastest-selling PC game of all time

Activision-Blizzard's action role playing game Diablo III has set the all-time record for fastest-selling PC game. In the first 24 hours of release, more than 3.5 million copies had been sold. More than 1.2 million players that received the game for signing up for a World of Warcraft promotion were not counted in the 3.5 million, nor do players in Korean internet game rooms count towards the total sales. All told, the cross-platform game had more than 6.3 million players in the first day of release, despite widespread server connection issues required for even the single player campaign.

Commoditization of any market will kill eventually kill the big players.

Android OEMs need to pay heed of what has/is happening in the PC industry.

Agree. You don't want to be a commodity provider.
