Apple, Samsung fail to reach settlement during ordered talks

updated 11:45 am EDT, Wed May 23, 2012

July trial may be virtually guaranteed

Apple and Samsung have failed to reach any kind of settlement after court-ordered talks on Monday and Tuesday, according to the Korea Times. A Samsung official tells the publication that the companies could find "no clear agreement" on their patent dispute. The talks were extremely high-level, involving Apple CEO Tim Cook, and Samsung CEO Choi Gee-sung.

The head of Samsung's mobile division, J.K. Shin, recently proposed cross-licensing patents as an option, but what offers were made during negotiations is unknown. With the official talks failed, it may be highly unlikely that both parties will settle out of court before the beginning of a California trial, which is scheduled for July 30th barring any disruptions. Any settlement will now have to be reached through the companies' own will.

Apple is accusing Samsung of copying some design traits of the iPhone and the iPad, but Samsung has fired back, charging Apple with using its wireless technology. Apple, though, has so far come out victorious in most court rulings around the world, in some cases securing injunctions against products like the Galaxy Tab 10.1. To avoid losing sales, Samsung has made slight modifications, though even these are being challenged.

    Yesterday Same-Sung...

said that there is bias toward Apple by court experts. They "adored" Apple products. Think about this: so does Same-Song as Apple is accusing them of blatant copying of their products. When asked to produce emails and other evidence for the trial, Samsung inexplicably cannot find the reference materal that MUST exist while any products are on the drawing board.
Apple adoration indeed! The biggest of whom was the Korean company.

Has it escaped everyone's attention that the judge is Korean?

    Samsung wants what?

Samsung: We want cross-licensing patent deals.

Apple: And people in h*** want ice water.
