Verizon to ship Jetpack 890L 4G hotspot on May 24

updated 12:35 pm EDT, Tue May 22, 2012

Global-ready Verizon Jetpack 890L 4G hotspot will cost $20 on contract, after rebate

Verizon Wireless will begin offering the ZTE-made Jetpack 890L 4G LTE hotspot online and in stores on May 24. The device was introduced at CES in January and was since approved by the FCC. It is made for world travelers thanks to support of multiple bands, including CDMA, EVDO, 3G, and Verizon's 4G LTE.

It can share the 4G connection with up to 10 Wi-Fi-enabled devices and keeps connections secure thanks to VPN pass-through and WEP/WPA/WPA2 support.

There is an OLED display and keypad interface through which users can modify the settings of the hotspots and view device status. The hotspot promises download speeds of between 5 and 12 megabits per second (Mbps) and upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps in Verizon Wireless 4G LTE markets.

The Verizon Jetpack 890L will be available for $20 after a $50 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement. The plans start at $50 for 5GB per month.
