Device grabs video from Xbox 360, PS3, records in multiple resolutions

Video conversion hardware maker Elgato has announced the Game Capture HD, a new device that captures game footage from video game consoles and records it to a computer. Some gamers record their games as they play them for later sharing with other gamers. The Game Capture HD is about the size of a deck of cards, requiring no additional power supply for operation, and connects a video game console directly to a computer through USB2.

The device connects to the Xbox 360 through HDMI, and the PS3 using an AV input. It is capable of 480i, 576p, 720p, and 1080i video capture, encoding videos on-the-fly in H.264. The device comes with software for Mac and Windows enabling users to timeshift, edit, and share videos to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, or e-mail.

The Game Capture requires a Mac running OS X 10.7 or later with a 2GHz dual-core Intel processor, or a PC running Windows 7 with at least a 2GHz dual-core processor. The Game Capture HD will be available starting June 1, at a price of $200.
