Commission documents shed light on launch plans

Samsung appears to be readying a Galaxy S III variant for T-Mobile's network, according to Federal Communications Commission filings. The carrier has yet to officially confirm plans to launch the Korean handset maker's latest flagship device, however the FCC test documents point to a new model geared specifically for T-Mobile's 1,700MHz AWS spectrum.

Aside from the spectrum match, which also includes the 850MHz and 1,900MHz WCDMA bands, the device's T999 model number follows in sequence from the carrier's T989 label that adorned the Galaxy S II.

As noted by Engadget, the Bluetooth standards group also lists a similar model number, the T999V, paired with a press image that matches existing Galaxy S III variants, while a user agent profile adds further confirmation.

The third-generation Galaxy S may have reached nearly 10 million pre-orders within two weeks of its UK launch. The handset features a quad-core 1.4GHz Exynos processor in international markets, a dual-core Snapdragon S4 chip for LTE carriers, and a comparatively large 4.8-inch AMOLED display with 1280x720 resolution.

The S III is slated for a European release on May 29, ahead of a North American launch. The company has yet to confirm which US carriers will stock the device or equivalent models, however.
