UK national broadcaster adds online simulcast to Olympic coverage

The BBC has explained how it will cover the London 2012 Olympic Games. The home-nation broadcaster will stream 24 live feeds in HD to cover every event, matching the increase in video feeds for digital broadcasts in the UK during the event.

The 24 live streams will be available through the BBC website and expect to total around 2,500 hours of video-based coverage. Website users will also have access to live data, statistics and athlete information to compliment the video, with video coverage for mobile users hinted at through free apps.

Existing digital television coverage that the BBC offers for major sporting events will be expanded to match the online offering including the same 24 live feeds, an extra 24-hour channel of highlights and important events, and a BBC Sport app for connected TVs.

The BBC has previously said that it would air various events in 3D on its HD channel, including the opening ceremony, closing ceremony, and the men's 100m final.
